Frequently Asked Questions

General Inquiry

How can I maintain the appearance of my candles?

To prevent your candles from fading or discoloring, avoid placing them in direct sunlight, near strong artificial lights, or in hot, humid conditions for long periods. Wax may soften at temperatures above 80°F (27°C). For extended storage, keep your candles in a cool, dry environment.

Can I refill or reuse my candle containers?

We advise against refilling the glass jars for candle-making due to the risk of glass weakening over time. However, they're excellent for storing small items like buttons, nails, or seashells. Also, you can recycle them through most local recycling programs.

What type of wax is used in your products?

Our candles and wax melts are made from various types of wax, including soy, paraffin, and coconut blends, specific to each product. Details can be found on the product page.

What are your wicks made from?

We select from a variety of wick types, such as cotton core, flat braid, and threaded cotton wicks, based on the product. Each wick type is chosen for its unique benefits, such as centering capabilities and minimal soot production. We strictly avoid the use of lead wicks, which have been banned in the U.S. for years.

Is wick trimming necessary?

Yes, in most cases. Trimming the wick is advisable if there's noticeable carbon buildup or if the wick becomes overly long. Keep the wick trimmed to about 1/4 inch before lighting. Trimming helps prevent the wick from "mushrooming," reduces smoke and soot, and extends the candle's life by maintaining a safe and optimal burn.

Why should I stop using a candle with a half-inch of wax left?

Stopping use at this point is a precaution to prevent heat damage to surfaces or the container itself, as the glass can become very hot and potentially crack or break.

Why does my candle leave wax on the sides of the container?

Some wax residue, or "hang-up," is normal, especially at the top and middle parts of the candle and often catches up. Excessive residue or tunneling can result from various factors, including production errors or insufficient burn times. Our premium ingredients and thorough testing minimize tunneling risks. For best results, allow the wax pool to reach the container's edge for about 3-5 hours per burn.

What causes smoke to emit from my candle's wick and flame?

Smoke can occur if the wick isn't trimmed properly or if the candle is exposed to drafts from windows, doors, or high traffic areas. While occasional smoke puffs aren't a major concern, proper wick maintenance and placement can mitigate this issue.

What is the mushroom-shaped carbon buildup on my wick?

The "mushroom" is a common carbon buildup that occurs in all types of wicks, especially in highly fragranced candles, as fragrance oil ascends the wick during burning. It's normal but should be trimmed off before the next lighting to ensure a clean burn.

How can I extinguish the candle without causing smoke?

To reduce smoke, avoid blowing out the candle directly. Instead, use a wick snuffer to suffocate the flame quickly and safely.

Do your candles contain lead in the wicks?

Absolutely not. The use of lead in wicks has been illegal for some time, and we have never and will never use lead wicks in our products.
